Batyah Schachter has been a dance professional for over 40 years. She was born in Israel, and then graduated from the School For New Dance Development in Amsterdam. As a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, she has worked and performed in Israel, Europe in the US. She collaborates with musicians and dancers in improvisation as well as creating and performing solo dances. She has maintained a long-term collaboration with Simone Forti since 1988. Batyah has been a dance faculty member of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance since 1998.

Her Academic research is focused on movement and dance in the artifacts of the Ancient Near East (Ancient Egypt & Mesopotamia). Her PhD thesis, written at the Hebrew University, analyzes the role of movement in the rituals performed by the Pharaoh in the temple is entitled, "Movement and Consciousness: The King Facing God on the Reliefs of the Temple of Ramses III in Medinet Habu (12th c. BCE), Egypt." Her papers on this subject have been published in Europe and Israel.

Batyah was authorized to teach Continuum by Emilie Conrad in 2012 and has been teaching extensively in Israel since. She also teaches in Brazil and Germany. She sponsored Emilie Conrad’s teaching visits in Israel from 2009 to 2011 and has expanded the reach of Continuum by inviting other Continuum teachers to teach in Israel.
